Online therapy Ontario

Online therapy in London

Saalvio is a virtual practice serving London and the rest of Middlesex County. Our clinical team is registered in Ontario, accepting new clients, and the first session is free.

Online therapy in London, in plain terms

London is a university and hospital city with a much broader life behind those two anchors. People here work for Western, for the London Health Sciences Centre, for an insurance company that has been on Dufferin Avenue for a hundred years, or for one of the small businesses that has quietly held its corner of the city together. The kind of help people need reflects all of that.

Therapy with Saalvio in London happens over secure video. You do not need to drive to a clinic downtown or fight for parking near the hospitals. You can fit a session into your lunch break, a quiet evening after the kids are in bed, or a Saturday morning at the kitchen table. The work is the same as in-person therapy; the room is yours.

Our clinicians are registered psychotherapists and registered social workers in Ontario. The first session is free and you can switch therapists at any point if the match is not right.

Common reasons people in London seek therapy

A few patterns come up often in our work with London clients.

  • Student mental health. Between Western and Fanshawe College, London has tens of thousands of students each year. Loneliness in first year, performance pressure in professional programs, and the long shadow of competitive admissions all show up in the work.

  • Healthcare worker burnout. London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's employ a large share of the city. Our clinical team understands the specific shape of healthcare burnout and the limits on what your employer's wellness program can actually do.

  • Insurance and white-collar burnout. London is an insurance town in a way few cities are. Long careers, sudden re-orgs, and the experience of being "let go" in your fifties show up regularly.

  • Anxiety and depression that has gone untreated for a long time, often because reaching out has felt like more work than you have the energy for.

  • Postpartum mental health. London has good perinatal services, but appointment access can be uneven. Virtual therapy fills a real gap for new parents with infants at home.

Insurance and fees

Most extended health benefits plans in London cover registered psychotherapists and registered social workers. The major Canadian insurers (Manulife, Sun Life, Canada Life, Green Shield, Desjardins) reimburse for both categories on most plans.

Western, Fanshawe, the LHSC, and the City of London all carry plans with mental health coverage; check your benefits booklet for "psychotherapist" and "social worker" specifically.

Saalvio does not direct-bill in Phase 1. We issue receipts after each session for you to submit. The first session is free regardless of coverage.

Your first session is free under CANADAHEALS, Saalvio's standing public health commitment to Canadian mental health. Saalvio does not bill insurers directly; we send a detailed receipt for you to submit to your extended health plan.

Therapy approaches that help

These are the evidence-based approaches our clinical team uses most often. Your therapist will pick the right fit for what you are bringing in.

Common questions

I am a Western or Fanshawe student. Can I use my student plan?

Usually, yes. Most student health plans at Western and Fanshawe cover registered psychotherapists and social workers for at least some sessions per year. Check the specifics with your student union; our receipts work with most plans.

I work at the hospital and I do not want a colleague seeing me as a patient.

Tell us where you work. London's healthcare community is smaller than it looks; we will match you with someone outside that institution.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person?

For most concerns, yes. The post-2020 research is consistent on this. For specific situations (severe trauma processing in some cases) in-person can be the better choice, and we will tell you if we think so.

What if I want to switch therapists?

You can at any point. The first-session-free policy exists in part because first impressions matter. Tell us what is not working and we will rematch you.

Or book a first session in London directly

Your first session is free under CANADAHEALS. There is no obligation to continue after the first session, and switching therapists is easy if the first match is not right.
