Online therapy Ontario

Online therapy in Kingston

Saalvio is a virtual practice serving Kingston and Frontenac County. Our clinical team is registered in Ontario, accepting new clients, and the first session is free.

Online therapy in Kingston, in plain terms

Kingston is a small city with several outsized institutions: Queen's University, the Royal Military College, Kingston General Hospital, and the federal corrections complex. Each shapes a slice of the population. People here often have ties to one or more of those institutions and the kind of help they need reflects it.

Therapy with Saalvio in Kingston happens over secure video. You can do a session from your apartment near Queen's, your house in the west end, or your kitchen in Amherstview. No drive, no parking.

Our clinicians are registered psychotherapists and registered social workers in Ontario. The first session is free.

Serving clients across Kingston, including:

  • Downtown Kingston
  • Sydenham Ward
  • Williamsville
  • Kingscourt
  • Reddendale
  • Cataraqui
  • Westwoods
  • Polson Park

Common reasons people in Kingston seek therapy

A few patterns come up often in our work with Kingston clients.

  • Student mental health. Queen's and St. Lawrence College bring tens of thousands of students into the city each year. Loneliness, competitive academic culture, and the stress of professional programs all show up in the work.

  • Military and military-family stress around RMC and CFB Kingston. Deployment cycles, postings, and the weight of carrying a service career.

  • Healthcare worker burnout. Kingston Health Sciences Centre employs a large share of the city; post-pandemic recovery has been uneven.

  • Corrections workforce stress. Working in federal corrections takes a particular toll that does not always come up easily outside the workforce; we work with that without flinching.

  • Anxiety and depression that has been silently carried for years.

Insurance and fees

Most Kingston employers carry extended health benefits that reimburse for registered psychotherapists and registered social workers. Queen's University, Kingston Health Sciences Centre, and Correctional Service Canada all carry plans with mental health coverage.

For students on tighter budgets, we hold subsidised sliding-scale spots. The first session is always free regardless of coverage.

Saalvio does not direct-bill in Phase 1. We issue receipts that work with most major plans.

Your first session is free under CANADAHEALS, Saalvio's standing public health commitment to Canadian mental health. Saalvio does not bill insurers directly; we send a detailed receipt for you to submit to your extended health plan.

Therapy approaches that help

These are the evidence-based approaches our clinical team uses most often. Your therapist will pick the right fit for what you are bringing in.

Common questions

I work in corrections. Can my therapist actually understand the work?

Yes. Our clinical team works with people in roles where the work itself is hard to talk about outside it. We will not flinch or move past the parts that matter.

I am at Queen's and the campus counselling waitlist is too long. Can I just come to Saalvio?

Yes. You do not need a referral. If you have a student health plan, ask whether it reimburses for registered psychotherapists or social workers; most do.

My spouse is military and I cannot talk about their deployment to most people. Can I bring it here?

Yes. As a civilian client you can do therapy independently; your sessions are confidential and do not connect to your spouse's service record.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person?

For most concerns, yes. The post-2020 research is consistent on this.
