Crisis Support

If you are in crisis right now

Saalvio is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, please call 911. If you are in mental health crisis, please call 988 (the Suicide Crisis Helpline of Canada) or visit your nearest emergency department. The resources on this page can connect you to additional help that is open right now.

1. If you are in immediate physical danger, call 911

Call 911 if you or someone near you is in immediate danger of harm. That includes thoughts of suicide with a plan or means, active self-harm, an overdose, threats of violence, or a medical emergency. 911 dispatchers are trained to respond to mental-health emergencies.

Call 911 now

2. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988 (the Suicide Crisis Helpline of Canada)

988 is the Suicide Crisis Helpline of Canada. It is free, 24/7, and also works in the United States. You can call or text. Trained responders will listen and help you make a plan for the next hour. You do not need to be in immediate danger to call. You can also visit your nearest emergency department.

What to expect when you call

  • A trained responder will answer. They will not judge you. They will not put you on hold for long stretches.
  • Most calls are kept private. The exceptions are when someone is in immediate physical danger, or in some cases when a child is at risk.
  • You can ask for a different responder if you do not feel safe with the one you reached. You can also call back later, or text instead, or use online chat.
  • You do not need to be in immediate danger to call. You can call for someone else. You can call if you are not sure.

After the crisis: what we offer at Saalvio

  • Our separate guided CBT-based self-help tools, calming music, and cognitive games. Free, available across Canada and the US. None of these are crisis services either.
