1. Our commitment

Saalvio is committed to making mental-health information and care available to as many people as possible, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA across saalvio.com. This is the level required by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation for public-facing websites.

2. What we have done

  • Semantic HTML throughout. The site uses proper headings, lists, landmarks, and form labels.
  • Keyboard-first design. Every interactive element can be reached and used with a keyboard alone.
  • Skip-to-content link for screen-reader and keyboard users.
  • Colour contrast meets or exceeds WCAG AA on every text-on-background combination used in the design system.
  • Focus rings are visible on every focusable element.
  • Alt text on meaningful images. Decorative images carry empty alt attributes so screen readers skip them.
  • Plain-language writing at a grade 7 to 8 reading level on user-facing pages.
  • Respects prefers-reduced-motion. Animations are minimal and stop when you ask them to.
  • Forms have visible labels, error messages tied to their fields, and clear focus order.
  • Print and forced-colours styles. The site is readable in high-contrast mode.

3. How we test

  • Automated audits with Lighthouse and axe-core on every page before launch.
  • Manual keyboard navigation pass on each page.
  • Screen-reader smoke tests with NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver.
  • Manual review of focus order, headings, and form labelling.
  • Quarterly re-audit after launch.

4. Known limitations

  • Some third-party content embedded on Saalvio (such as Fluent Forms widgets or videos) may have accessibility gaps outside our direct control. We choose vendors with strong accessibility track records and re-evaluate annually.
  • Legacy content imported from earlier versions of the site is being audited in batches. If you see a page with missing alt text, missing headings, or other gaps, please tell us and we will prioritize it.

5. Report a barrier

If you hit something on saalvio.com that you cannot use, please tell us. Include the page URL, your device and assistive technology if relevant, and a short description of what happened.

We respond within five business days. Where a fix takes longer, we will tell you our plan and a target date.

6. Alternative formats

If you need information on Saalvio in an alternative format (such as large print, plain-text, or audio), email [email protected]. We will work with you to provide it as soon as practicable, free of charge.

7. Our staff and training

Saalvio staff and contractors who work on the public website are trained on the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and on the Ontario Human Rights Code as it applies to people with disabilities. Our training records are kept and reviewed annually.

We update this statement when our accessibility work changes. The 'Last updated' date at the top reflects the most recent change.
