EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
A structured therapy that helps your brain finish processing a hard memory. It uses guided eye movements, or a similar back-and-forth motion, to help your mind do the work it could not finish at the time.
- How well it's studied
- Strong research for trauma and difficult memories. The World Health Organization recommends it for PTSD.
- How long it usually takes
- 6 to 12 sessions for one recent hard event, longer for memories that go back further.
