Therapy in your first language

Therapy in English

Saalvio offers therapy in English for adults living anywhere in Ontario. Sessions are private, online, and led by registered psychotherapists and registered social workers on our clinical team.

Why language matters in therapy

English is the default language of work, school, and public life for many Canadians. That does not always make it the easiest language for therapy. Some people think in English all day and only find the right words for grief, shame, or family pressure in another language. Others grew up in English and want therapy that stays there without translation.

For newcomers, English therapy can work well when your English is strong enough to follow a 50-minute conversation and say what you mean. If English is a strain, doing therapy in your first language is usually easier and more useful. Saalvio also offers Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi when that is a better fit.

Therapy in English at Saalvio is not a generic service. Our clinical team is trained to work with multicultural clients, faith on your terms, family systems that do not match a textbook Western model, and the particular stress of building a life across cultures.

Plain English matters too. Saalvio writes and speaks at a grade 7 to 8 reading level on purpose. You should not need a dictionary to understand what your therapist is asking or what you are agreeing to in a session.

Who provides therapy in English

Therapy in English at Saalvio is provided by our regulated clinical team of registered psychotherapists and registered social workers. Every clinician on the roster works in English. Several also work in Urdu, Hindi, or Punjabi when that is a better fit for you.

The team works with adults, adolescents, couples, and families across anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationships, parenting, identity, and life transitions.

When you book, you can ask for a clinician whose background or languages match what you need. If the first match is not right, Saalvio will help you find another clinician on the team.

Communities served

English-language therapy at Saalvio is open to anyone in Ontario whose English is comfortable enough to do therapy in. That includes Canadian-born clients, newcomers, second-generation Canadians, and people who prefer English even when they speak other languages at home.

Sessions are online, so you can join from Toronto, Peel Region, York Region, or anywhere else in the province with a private space and a phone or laptop.

Many clients come to Saalvio after trying therapy with a clinician who did not understand their cultural context. Our team is built for clients who need more than a one-size-fits-all approach.

What a session feels like in English

A session in English at Saalvio runs about 50 minutes over a secure video link. The first few minutes are usually small talk: how the week went, what brought you in, what you hope might be different.

The therapist will follow your lead on what to talk about. You will not be asked to recount everything in detail before the work can start. If cultural references, faith, or family dynamics matter to you, they are welcome in the room on your terms.

Most weeks you will be asked to think about something between sessions, or to try a small experiment. That is not homework you have to perform. It is a way of letting the work continue past the 50 minutes.

Between sessions, you can message your therapist with short scheduling questions or quick clarifications. Detailed processing waits for the session, where tone and pacing are easier to follow.

Or book a first session directly

Your first session is free under CANADAHEALS, Saalvio's standing public health commitment to Canadian mental health. To book, contact Saalvio and ask for therapy in English. We will pair you with a clinician and confirm a time that works for you.

Sessions are online over a secure video link. You can take them from home, from a private space at work, or from a parked car. All you need is a phone or laptop and a few minutes of privacy.

Ongoing sessions after the free first session are billed on a collaborative range between $100 and $150 per session. Saalvio does not bill insurers directly; we send a detailed receipt for you to submit to your extended health plan. Many extended health plans in Canada reimburse psychotherapy services, and the receipt has the information your insurer needs.

Common questions

Is therapy in English the same price as therapy in other languages?

Yes. Saalvio's pricing is the same regardless of which language you do therapy in. First session is free; ongoing sessions are billed on a collaborative range between $100 and $150 per session.

Can I switch between English and another language in the same session?

Yes, if your clinician works in both languages. Many Saalvio clients naturally move between English and Urdu, Hindi, or Punjabi. Your therapist follows you.

Are your therapists registered?

Yes. Saalvio works with regulated talk-therapy professionals only: registered psychotherapists and registered social workers authorized to provide talk therapy in Ontario.

My English is good for work but not for deep feelings. Can I still book in English?

It depends on your comfort level. If English feels too thin for what you need to say, therapy in your first language is usually easier. Saalvio offers Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi as session languages with clinicians on our team. You can also message a therapist first to talk through which language fits.

Can I receive a receipt for my insurance?

Yes. Receipts are in English and include the information your extended health plan needs. Saalvio does not bill insurers directly; you pay for the session, we send you a detailed receipt, and you submit it to your plan.

Can I message a therapist in English before I book?

Yes. Pre-booking messaging is part of CANADAHEALS, free, and requires no commitment. You can write in English or in another language you are comfortable in. A therapist will reply within one business day. Messaging is not therapy by text and not crisis support; therapy happens in booked sessions, and if you are in crisis right now please call 911 for immediate danger or 988 for mental health crisis, or visit your nearest emergency department.
